I live in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz's province). Andalucia is a beautiful place, I can tell. But Cadiz as a city to visit is not so...beautiful. I mean it's small, if you are really interested in hisory, art and architecture you should visit in this province: el puerto de santa marÃa, tarifa, boloña (baelo claudia), jerez and all the white villages (pueblos blancos).
If you come you should certainly visit Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba, those are the most interesting cities to visit in the region, full of History and Culture.
Hope you enjoy your trip ^^ |

Cadiz is beautiful. Don't go now though. It's mid August and hot as hell there. Waint until mid September-October and the weather will be much more pleasant.
For beaches, la playa de la victoria is too crowded with tourists, and way too commercialized. Use La caleta, it's less big, but less crowded too.
For sightseeing, the Plaza de Mina and the Plaza de Candelaria were my favourites. Both are situated in the old quarter and have really beautiful neoclassical architecture. Great photos! The Cathedral is beautiful too. You can see the architectural similarities between Spain and its Carribbean colonies.
For excursions, you can always take a ferry ride out into the Atlantic. Jerez de la frontera is the largest city near Cadiz, and has is worth a daytrip for sightseeing.
My favourite excursion was Chipiona! It's a small town to the North, and is undiscovered by tourists. My Spanish friends took me there and I loved it! The views and beaches are great, and even better than Cadiz because they're not nearly as crowded.
Hope this helps,
Peace. |

After spending a week in two large cities (London and Madrid) it was the perfect stop for us to recharge. We stayed at the Parador in the old town, right on the ocean in a nice room. It's a very beachy type of area. The old town is small but very charming and cool to see! Lots of little streets with shops and restaurants. It was loaded with sunburnt tourists (mostly from the UK), but we were tourists too so we liked it. Not too expensive a place to visit either.
I'd definitely visit the other places mentioned, they have a lot more things to see if you like museums and culture. but I loved my visit to Cadiz. It was very cool to see where Columbus set sail for the new world (for the second time I think?) and recharge for a couple days. |

Very nice! see www.cadiz.es. The town is the oldexst one in Europe, over 4000 years. Cadiz is kind of grandmother of the carnival in Rio. If you are going there, visit the turist information. you will get more suggestions than you can take.
It is not far too from Jerez de la Frontera, where the Sherry wines are from.
Enjoy yor stay.

Well,it is hot in the summer.Cadiz is a small town, but with a lot of nice sights.I would not recommend going there in the summer months. The night life is nothing to write home about, but it is near Jerez and the town of Rota which are a little better.I have been there many times when I worked for the U.S. Govt. I live in Valencia, and do not go to Southern Spain much now that I have retired (that should tell you something). |

I liked the smaller towns like Ronda and Grenada better. Cadiz was a large, hot beach city. |
