Husband and I are meeting in Spain in Sept, we have 21 days...any suggestions? Cities, hotels, must sees? |
This will be the only time we will get to see each other in 2009, he's deployed right now in the Middle East. We will obviously take advantage of down time, but we want to see the sights too. We are thinking about renting a motorcycle? I am thinking maybe staying around the Mediterranean side, but nothing is set yet, I am all ears. I want to make this a wonderful trip! |

I like Craig's itinerary. He practically read my mind! (he may have read some of my previous posts.) Cadiz. or west of there, along the Costa de la Luz. Much quieter than the Costa del Sol, although I disagree with him about the coast being less Spanish...it's all gorgeous, if you want some beach time. But the Costa del Sol is a bit over built, and tends to be fairly crowded, even in Sept.
The Northern coast, while I've never been there, has a terrific reputation too, though it might be chilly then. We'll have to see how many northerners weigh in on this...I've been to Donostia, once for a day...it merits a better amount of time.
As for Barcelona...I'd save that for when you can concentrate more time right there...there is a LOT to do and see around there.
And you might want to splurge a bit and stay in one of the Paradors...luxurious and beautiful hotels in historic buildings...some of them are castles. You'd enjoy that.
And Craig didn't mention Segovia. You should see Segovia while in Madrid...it's an hour away...and Spectacular!
From Sevilla, you should day trip to CĂłrdoba, and drive to Ronda for a couple of days (there's a Parador there...you could do that).TOTALLY worth it! And don't miss Granada! (Parador, there, too). The Alhambra is a don't miss!!! |

It's fine going to the Mediterranean area, HOWEVER..... this is all a Catalonia region....therefore you really are not getting a real feel of SPAIN.
My suggestion to you would be to meet in Madrid, spend few days in the Capital, and also heading to a little town just south of Madrid called Toledo is definately worth a visit. Then i would take the AVE which is a high speed rail service from Madrid to Sevilla. This is a beautiful city and you will really get a feel for what the real Spain is. Then if you wanted to just relax a little for the rest of your trip and want to be on the coast, then the Andalucian coast has some beautiful spots. Cadiz for one is lovely.
Have a great time!!! |

I recommend you to visit barcelona which is in the Mediterranean side there's many places to visit, barcelona's places has a long history and you'll learn and enjoy a lot: The Universal Exposition of Barcelona 1888 took place in Parc de la Ciutadella, the Olympic Games in 1992 took place in MontjuĂŻc,Barcelona Maritime Museum,The Liceu: Barcelona's opera house, Tibidabo, Park GĂĽell, Paseig de Gracia (one of the best street to shop)
You will enjoy staying there cuz it's a multicultural city, also the districts in Barcelona have a very active nightlife, and the food is great! |
