I'll go to work to Barcelona Spain. the salary offered is 38000 US dlls. Is it enough? I'd like to live alone

Additional Details
I'd like to rent an apartment and in fact I don't plan to expend a lot (I don't usually do that). What about a car? Buying stuff such as TV, computer, internet service?

That's about 27,500 euros at today's exchange rate.

That's 2291 euros before taxes and social charges per month. (Tax guide here: http://www.expatica.com/actual/article.asp?subchannel_id=88&story_id=1900 )

Depending on which part of the city you want to live in it may be JUST enough, but you can see from these prices that rent isn't cheap:

and here is a basic cost of living guide:

If slumming it is your thing, then go ahead. If you want comfort and a central location, then you'll have to flat-share or find a better-paying job.

Barcelona is very expensive for living especially for real state. You will make more money that a lot of spaniards, but you will probably barely break even.

Would be a nice experience to live in Barcelona, and with your pay I would say its enough. Not much savings but enough. Depends on your lifestyle as well. But with 2,200EUR i think you can be comfy enough, but not able to save...

If you are working abroad for a USA company then you should get allowances from them. You don´t say who is employing you because coming from the USA there will be restrictions. If you are earning the equivalent of $38000 then that will be a good job considering Spanish wages, but just setting up home here would be expensive. At todays rates you will get about €2200 - €2300 per month, but if you get taxed on that I doubt you are going to make it. Renting an apartment in Barcelona won´t be cheap. It may be worth looking outside of the city. Buying a car then insuring it. If you are coming from the USA independantly you may not be allowed to buy a car. To buy anything or live in Spain you will need an NIE number. All foreigners coming to Spain need this number. You have to apply at a local police station. I´m not trying to be pessimistic, I´m just pointing out a few things.

it depends on what you are doing
