yes u do. the best thing u used do is find out the wensite for the u.s. embassy in spain, especially in the city where u will be in. register with them, because if you need to rent a car, you will need a temporary driver license from spain. i am not sure but i think u can only used the u.s. license for about 2 months.

I would also check into a Mastercard, they have better rates sometimes.
