Salamanca is a wonderful place with lots of places to see and oodles of things to do.
The University there was founded in 1218!
Plaza Mayor was built between 1729 and 1755 and bullfights were held here well in to the 19th century!
The place is steeped in history.
Food wise, the local speciality is 'chanfaina' which is a rice dish with various meats in a spicy sauce. It's delicious!
The tourist office is on Plaza Mayor and there you will be able to get plenty of information re what's going on, places to see and maps etc.
Also there are lots of restaurants in the same area.
A lot of the nightlife is just east of the Mercado Central (the central market) and also on the Gran Via. |

Wow! I'm studying and living here in Salamanca at the moment.
Visit all the monuments, and have fun. There's a lot of nightlife in Salamanca. Unless during the academic year. |

Yes, make sure you are there about the 15th September for the feria. I was there last year. The weekend is exciting with entertainment going on in the streets. It's a beautiful amazing city. |

HAVE FUN!!!
Wait...that won't be too hard!
Let's see...bring your sense of adventure. Get used to just having toast for breakfast, big lunch, fair sized dinner. Naps in the afternoon! (nah, just have a cup of coffee...don't want to miss anything! anyway...I'm not sure how serious they are about siesta that far North). And learn how to close your eyes and taste everything, no matter how gross it sounds or looks, cause it is probably pretty tasty!
And, make SURE you try the cured hams! And some of their sausages. And the cheeses!
And don't bother with any of your American friends...speak ONLY Spanish! You'll learn more that way. (I know..you'll still hang out with them). |
