I'm going on holiday next week - last time they wouldnt allow me home from spain due to my wheelchair? |
Now I am really concerned that the same will occur again. Has anyone been away with Monarch from Manchester recently and used an electric wheelchair? If so please tell me HONESTLY how they were with you - attitude wise! Im in the UK.
There was an 8 hr delay and I asked for my wheelchair back - they refused until I quoted the human rights act. After that they were really rude and the plane left without me and my kids. Additional Details I did take legal action but was let down by my lawyer. I was offered compensation from thomas cook/jmc (a bowl of fruit and some chocolates!!!) as the property had also been totally inaccessible but I have never received this! It was in the press this time last year - this year I AM going to take them to court if they dont let me fly! |

I have flown with Monarch Airlines for thirty years. I've always had a super flight. About 18 months ago whilst flying out of Granada, there was a severly disabled lady who couldn't get on the plane as the airport hadn't the correct equipment. However, Monarch and the ground crew were fantastic. The plane was delayed because of it, the other passengers didn't mind the delay. It was quite something to see them get this lady on there and how they did it.
You'll be just great with Monarch. |

We took my 88 year old mother-in-law to Alicante from Bristol with EasyJet and they were BRILLIANT ! They asked us to take a fold-up wheelchair, not an electric one. On arrival at the airport, our wheelchair was labelled and we were given one of theirs. She was treated like Royalty as were we ALL. We were first in the queue, first on and last off - same applied in Alicante
Do you have to use Monarch ? |

i used to work for the company that provides wheelchair assistance at Manchester Airport and in my time there of 3 years there was never any trouble with the chairs although the baggage handlers occasionally refused to lift the very large electric chairs so it was down to us to make sure they went on the aircraft |

That is horrible.
My advice would be to contact the airline before hand and explain your situation to them and see how they would be willing to help.
My advice in future though would be to stick to the big name airliners as they usually have the best service in regards to this sort of situation.
I hope you took legal action against whatever airline you used last time. |

Such horrible treatment! I can understand them not having the correct equipment if you hadn't arranged ahead of time, and that the electric wheelchair possibly was a difficulty, but the rudeness, and not being boarded. Unacceptable!
And the way the "recompensed" you!
I would definitely find a better airline, and, if you call in advance and make sure they know what your special needs are, but something like this should be commonplace to an airline! They deal with this every day!
And my understanding is that Spain is very accomodating to wheelchairs, and accessibility should be available. If your villa wasn't acceptable, make sure the agents understand your needs in advance, so they can make sure your accomodations are fitted to your needs.
What a horrible way to have to holiday! You need a better arrangement than last trip! |
