Hello there.

This confuses so many people as the general advice given by tour operators is that you should have 6 months validity left on your passport should you be travelling to a foreign country.

Whilst it's true that for certain countries that may be the case, I have just made exactly the same enquiry myself. I checked with the UK passport office who directed me to The Spanish Consulate with the following results.
Please note that I've quoted directly from the Spanish Consulates website: If you are a British Citizen and you hold a full 10 year British Passport this applies to you.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR NATIONALS of the European Union, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland

General Information for Nationals

This information is intended for residents in the UK. If your country is not one of those listed above please consult our website for visa information regarding your country.

For those countries listed above, visas are NOT required regardless of purpose and/or length of stay in Spain.

If your intended stay in Spain will exceed 90 days, registration with the local police authorities is no longer required. However, it is recommended that you register with the local Town Hall (padrón) and with your Embassy or Consulate.

British passports, as well as passports and national identity cards of the countries mentioned above, are required to be valid during the duration of the visit.

A letter of consent is recommended if the child (holding a valid passport) is not travelling with the parents (mother or the father if he has parental responsibility) or guardian. If the child is travelling alone please consult with the airline.

Children included in the parent's passport must be accompanied by the parent. The child’s right to travel on the passport will lapse depending on the age stipulated by the issuing country (see passport for details).

British passport [European Community] holders:-
- You do not need a minimum of validity in your passport to travel to Spain.
- You can travel to Spain as long as the passport is valid.
- Any children included in the passport must be under 16 years of age.

This information is applicable for mainland Spain, as well as the Canary & Balearic Islands, Ceuta & Melilla.

Unquote:

So, you are perfectly fine to travel on your exisitng passport as long as your passport is valid both when you go and return from Spain.

Have a fabulous holiday- Good luck!

yes - just make sure you are back before it expires.

If it's a European passport yes. Outside countries often need up to six months, after estimated return.

Trust me, there's nothing to worry about. I went to Tenerife last October and I only had 3 weeks left on my passport. At the end of the day if it's in date then it's valid.

Nobody's gonna pull you up for having 3 months left!!!

I read somwehere recently that for travel to Spain you must have 3 months remaining on your passport . Me going Tuesday too. Have a great time. I will. Read the section on passports and visas in your travel document booklet.

you are supposed to have 6 months left on it to be able to travel

GAVIN E
You must have at least 6months from the date of return on your passport. You may not be able to travel if you have less time.

No, your passport needs to be valid 6 moths from the DATE YOU DEPART Spain. If I where you, I woud apply for a emergency US passport. Not sure if US does this. If not, you might as well waste your time flying there only to be denied entry. Good luck and have a good trip!

Most countries insist that passports must have at least six months left to run. It's done that way so that if you have an acident, or fall ill, when on holiday, there isn't the added complication of the passport expiring before you can fly home. Check with your travel agent, or with the Spanish Embassy. You might need to get an emergency passport issued.

The general rule is 6 months but most eec countries will allowe less as long as you have more than a month on call the spanish embassy to double check
