I already have a spanish nie number but have never been given it how do i find out what it is i am in britain?

You dont get a card for your NIE number you get an official piece of paper, if you have bought a property in Spain then your Soliciter who acted for you must have it as he needed it to deal with the purchase, check your Escitura and paperwork from the purchase it should be on there somewhere. you need either your residencia (you get a card with this ) or NIE number to buy houses cars etc in Spain.

You should have the paperwork. It must have been given to you when you bought your property. Check your paperwork.
If you find it keep it safe it is an important document. Photo-copies can be used for various things, but the original is very important

Ask in the Policia Nacional.
You probably have it but you never pick it up.

You NIE number is from the Departmento de Extranjeros (Foreign Department) it is part of the National Police but depending where you come from or where you are in Spain you may be able to get it at the National police or may have to go to the Departmento de Extranjeros

It is a piece of paper only, you would get a card if you had residence.
I presume that you have a property than your solicitor would have dealt with this for you and it should be in your paper work it starts with an X then some numbers

When I went to Palma to apply for my NIE I spoke very little Spanish. I trekked about the City asked at the National Police who sent me to the Departmento de Extranjeros where I waited in line for about 2 hours to get a piece of paper to fill it in and photo copy it 5 times. However there was no customer photo copier in the building and the Departmento de Extranjeros was out of town. I asked in some office blocks to photo copy mine then I had to go right to the back of the line and wait all over again. It was a long day.
One the application was processed I received a letter telling me to go collect it. Where I waited in a line in the heat of summer for 6 hours to get a bit of paper.

I would check your paper work as maybe you have the paper as there is no card the DNI which the Spanish have is a card
If no luck ask your solicitor.

I had trouble knowing where to get my NIE number as the director in the hotel I worked knew I needed it but had no idea where I should go then my lack of Spanish was a big issue trying to find out where to really go now my Spanish is fine

If your solicitor hasn't got it and you have applied for it already, you will have to return to the place where you orriginally applied and pick it up. They do not send it to you, and it is normally ready in 1-6 weeks depending on public holidays and how busy they are. They usually tell you at the time when it will be ready. When you get the paper, make a few copies and always use these, and keep orriginal in a safe place. Never give out the orriginal to anyone as if you lose it you have to go and obtain another. There might be times when you need to SHOW orriginal only.

you should have a certificate from the ministirio de interior stating it if not check through all document you have it should look something like this N.I.E. X-1234567-E
if you find the certificate keep it safe as the Spanish authorities love paperwork and will normally want to see the original and keep a copy anytime you deal with them.

GO TO THE POLICE STATION IN THE AREA YOU BOUGHT YOU PROPERTY THATS WHERE THEY ARE ISSUED YOU WILL NEED YOUR ESCRITURA AND RELEVANT DOCS .
IF YOU OWN A HOUSE HERE YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN IT BEFORE MINE IS NOT A CARD ITS ON A LETTER ALSO YOUR WIFE OR PARTNER SHOULD HAVE ONE CHECK YOUR PAPERWORK YOU MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR A CARD AND ITS IN THE FORM OF A LETTER.
