You have some of the finest workmen in the world in Spain, wood stone masonry, carving and artworks of all descriptions. You may be able to get work but many dont research it enough. You are better coming over nearer the time and testing the water,by enquiring about jobs and trying to get employment first,so that you have a job to come out to.There are many genuine and so called tradesmen out here amongst the expat communities, people who live here have their own favorites to employ in each area, this is generally based on a good name,a good job and cleaning up afterwards,on finishing. All the ex pat tradesmen i have employed have never even offered to clean up ,so i use people of any nationality that have a good reputation and can be trusted locally. My best wishes, but dont bank on anything,it takes you to make it happen. |

Apart from david c c thinking you are a twat...i don't think so, enjoy it but be prepared for the homesickness.
There are lots of expat websites that have forums, just google expat. You can get to "speak" to people who are actually over there.
Good luck! |

I've heard that especially construction work is harder to get for foreigners because of the economy, but then, if you're going to be living amongst the British population, many people will be willing to hire you because you speak English...Might be a rough go, though. Check out the specific area where you plan to work, make sure you know what you're getting into. |

My mate Mick went over to fit a kitchen for a friend 18 months ago for 2 weeks, as a qualified joiner he made a grand job of the work, marble tops and hand cut apple wood if i remember rightly. As locals began to see his work he ended up getting contracts and jobs, he is now living over there in a village called CUTAR and does everything from doors to windows and kitchens for local builders etc. He has no intention of coming back to blighty.
Go for it you only live once |
