It's illegal and the Spanish are really taking this serious and you will face a jail sentence if you are caught!! |

I don't think you can just get citizenship by marrying someone you don't know...I think you can get the right to live and work there, but you still have to go through the whole process of becoming a citizen.
And I KNOW you aren't going to get HER citizenship in the US that way. I KNOW that the US laws are that one must go through the full process and live in the country for 10 years, take the test, etc.
And, this is NOT a site for finding illegal "green card" marriages to set up.
This is a legal site. |

I don't where you're going to find a Spanish person who wants US citizenship, but people seeking Spanish citizenship seems to be common enough that there's a going rate of about 2000 euros to do it. The legal process by which you gain citizenship through marriage (roughly) is this:
1: get married
2: empadronar (register) yourselves at city hall as living in the same home.
3: register yourself at a certain police station (depending what city you live in) and get your NIE (ID number for foreigners with Spanish RESIDENCY). Now you can live and work in Spain legally.
4: remain officially living in Spain for 2 years (maybe 3 now).
5: now you are eligible to apply for citizenship in Spain (that process takes an additional year).
I am not sure exactly what Nuajav is talking about. The EC has been passing some much stricter immigration laws a of late, but they have basically only been supported and pushed through by Germany, Switzerland, and other more northern countries, much to the protest of a large portion of the Spanish representation. Spain, while more than before, is still relatively unconcerned with it's "illegally existing population," especially if they do little to damage the lives of the people around them. I personally know of a few people who are married here and pursuing citizenship, some for love, some for money, but none have run into any problems bigger than the Spanish bureaucracy. One possible problem: I'm not entirely sure what Spain's current policy is on duel citizenship. Are you ready to give up your US passport?
Something to think about: gay marriage is legal in Spain.
Hope that helps. |
