Much better to renew it before you go and if your old passport still has time to run, they will add the remaining time up to 9 months validity on to your new one so you dont lose out.

Many countries require a minimum of 6 months on a apssport but I am fairly certian that within the EU, it is not necessary, but check Spain's Embassy visa section to find out.

we travelled in July and our passports ran out in August and nothing was said so i think you'll be fine.

I was advised to have at least six months from my departure date, even though I was only planning a month. I went with the recommendation, based on the fact that I was going to need it, anyway. Why not just have it done? You may not be allowed out of the country if you don't have that extra six months to go...they are afraid you might be caught up in some sort of emergency.

ClaireBabeSz
Nope as long as your back before July.

walter k
No you do not have to nenew your passport. As long as your passport is still current upon your return.

As long as it's still in date, you should be alright.

Ricardo Kaka
This is no problem for you because Spain it is EU

SOC JO! A capite ad calcem
Spain is in the E.U. You don´t need to renew it until you come back

If you are from the UK then there will be no problem provided you return before it expires otherwise that may cause you a headache or two.
If you ever have to renew a passport quickly and you live in the UK, I have found by going to the Post Office and get their assistance it will greatly speed things up. It will cost you extra but it is well worth it. I got my passport back by return of post within 4 days.

Edit; There are other Europeans who stay here and renew their passports when the expiry date arrives. You'll be okay.

I supposed it depends on how long you will visit there, but speak to your travel agency

natycarj
If they give you a three months visa, then you'll have to renew your passport before you go. I would just get a new passport just to be safe.

rwi4ever
Agreed with Marky

Anna v
Yes, renew it before you go. Your passport should have 6 months of validity before you travel.

Jones
You will have to renew it if you are planning on still being out of the country in July. It would be the safer choice to renew it before you go. Ask the passport bureau to put a rush on it. Include your travel date on your application and a copy of your plane ticket if you have it already. Promise to send them a postcard, or use some other kind of charming tactic to make sure you get your passport back in time for your trip. Have fun!
