The Costa del Maresme is nice and I've had some very enjoyable holidays there. It's easy to get to by air, with Easyjet flying to Barcelona and Ryanair to Girona. The main area favoured by British tourists would be Calella, Pineda, Santa Susanna and Malgret. All have good wide beaches of coarse grain sand. Calella, in particular, has great clean beaches with beach sports, water sports and beach restaurants every 100 yards. Also, because it has been catering for tourists longer than the others, Calella has more hotels, nightlife and a large shopping area (most of which is pedestrianised). All of the towns are connected by an excellent train service to Barcelona, which is not only cheap but runs very frequently.
The downside to your question would be the time of the year. Unlike the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, this area is not known for it's weather this early in the year. Currently it's not as warm as the UK! As there is very little tourism, out of season, most hotels will not yet be open. Ferris holidays, probably the largest coach holiday company taking visitors to the area, begin their operations on the 27th March, but even then only to a limited number of hotels. Many other hotels don't open until the beginning of May.
It's lovely in the summer but, to be perfectly honest, I would recommend the Costa del Sol more for March holidays. That's where I shall be in a couple of weeks. |
