If you are going to be living in Barcelona on a permanent basis and really want to endear yourself to the locals learn to speak Catalan. You will love the place, the people?, well, they are very open minded, and friendly, just don´t go out at night alone.
And try to stay away from drugs or junkies, its very easy to find.
