If you want to see a Spanish city, I would suggest Madrid. Barcelona consider themselves to be Cataluñan, not spanish.
Both places are great for tourists - Madrid has a lot more irish bars in Puerta Del Sol that may appeal to you, but Barcelona has the beach. |

Don´t drink Sangria....when you get it in a bar, it´s just cheap wine with fruit juice (or sometimes liqueurs) added. Nothing more than punch for the tourists...drink the tinto, if you like reds, or Fino if you like white...Fino is really dry sherry, so if you like dry, these are the best...
Madrid is more classically spanish, while Barcelona is more cosmopolitan and European.
Both are great fun!
I think, though I have heard people give different opinions, Barcelona has more of a young set club scene...a bit wilder, but Madrid has tons, too. Barcelona has a lot of interesting looking music venues/clubs.
I´m not good on the bar scene thing, though. I´m more of a monument/museum type. |

Madrid is more Spanish, Barcelona is more European, but both are very FUNNY!!! Probably the best cities of the world to enjoy the nightlife!!! It's hard to chose just one. For parties both are excellent, and for beauty too, altough Barcelona has a more genuine architecture while Madrid is more classical. I like both.
People are fantastic in both, altough I know better Barcelona, and trust me, it's just MARVELLOUS!!! |
