I am wondering if there is public transport from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona Princess hotel?

I have heard that a taxi would cost maybe 40 Euros and a bus or train must be an alternative perhaps!

Mr Who
Take the Metro right from the airport, it only costs a few bucks to go downtown. There is a Metro station just around the corner from the Princess hotel. So, what do you want more? ;-)

Yes. Take the RENFE (Spain's national train system) train from the airport (Aeroport) to the stop Passeig de Gracia. The train leaves every half hour.

Transfer to the metro L4 (yellow line) toward La Pau, and get off at El Maresme/Forum. The transfer is a bit of a long walk.

If you are going to use public transportation at all during your visit, and I recommend it, buy a 10-ride ticket at the train station. It's good for local trains, buses, and metro in Barcelona, and saves a lot of money over single-ride tickets. You'll spend under a Euro per ride, and the transfer is free.

Great city. Have fun! There is also a bus which is slightly less convenient to where you are and slightly more expensive, but runs later into the night. Contact me if you need details.
