you can actually take the train most of the way (or drive!). Go up through France, and then take either the ferry or Eurotunnel up through England onto Scotland.
It'll take you a LONG time, and be quite a bit more expensive, but if you REALLY can't fly, it's worth considering!

yes... you can use the international train and go thru France and the underwater tunnel... or by car... or boat...
