I have a friend in England who wishes to have a knee operation (needs a new knee) in Spain.? |
They are wondering who they would need to approach to start the ball rolling. They would not be involved with any insurance as they will be paying themselves. Where to they start/who do they see in order to get this done? Do they need a doctor out here for a referral? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

If you have enough money you will get a new knee anywhere, it's as simple as that. As for finding the best surgeon, then your friend should come to Spain and look for one. Some hospitals in Spain are the best you'll find anywhere in the world. Speaking Spanish may be an advantage though. |

You probably will get it done much, much faster here..............there are surely places in Marbella, Private clinics etc., but one in Arroyo de la Miel, has a very good reputation............Clinica Sandalf, right in the centre of town, just opposite the main medical centre for Arroyo, |

Maybe the first person for your friend to talk to is their own G.P., as a matter of courtesy, and he/she should know if there are any procedures to be followed.
Although if they are totally private, I would think it could all be arranged in Spain. After all, if you were stricken down with appendicitis while on holiday, I guess the wheels would grind into action fairly promptly. |

The need for this surgery is typically determined by an orthopedic surgeon. I am sure your doctor can guide you down the correct path so that you are sure to have a proper doctor in Spain and follow the guidelines set in Spain. My husband having this surgery in the US paid about $15000, so be prepared to pay a lot. He had an Arthoscopic ACL & meniscus repair. |
