It depends on your budget. If I were you if I have enough money I would spend at least 2 nights in Madrid and 2 in Barcelona and the following days I'd do a tour in Andalusia, visiting Granada, Seville and Cordoba. Seville is also big so you better spend there at least 2 complete days.
If you also want beach (when do you come to Spain?) is it not far from Seville.
To Jane S: I'm from Spain and we call Barça when talking about the sport club (football, basketball teams) but when talking about Barcelona city, if you want to call it shorter you must say "Barna". At least Barça sounds rare for me when referring to the city. I think you has been living in Spain or actually live here now, so I don't question you either!. |

You know, you can't just pick day 5 to see a fĂștbol game. It MUST be on a day when they are actually PLAYING! Check their schedule. FCB. I think that's all you need to search, or you might have to spell out the city. Yeah, that would be fun, but my experience is...well...too expensive for a budget vacation.
Sightseeing...Kind general, doncha think?
10 days in Barça? Let's see. Stroll the Ramblas and the beach to the north of Port Vell...to the south it's pretty industrialized.
Montjuic...there is Poble Espanyol, art museums, the Olympic park, and a big castle up the hill.
Take one day to ride the tourist bus through the Eixample. It's just too vast to do on foot. High points: Parc GĂŒell, Sagrada Familia, the FĂștbol stadium (I think it's the largest in the world), Casa BattlĂł (pricey to enter) and Casa MilĂĄ (not as expensive and SPECTACULAR!)
BarrĂ Gotic...you can wander through there, take a walking tour, including the Cathedral, 3 hours or so. There are all these little private museums, if it interests you, where people have excavated down to the Roman ruins, and then open their basements to the paying public. If you are interested, this is really cool!
Palau Musica...you can tour it, or go to a concert, either way, spectacular!
Museu de Xocolat...if you're into the history and sculpting of chocolate. Yum! Best gift shop I've been in!
Food! You must eat, and enjoy lots of food. Seafood is TO DIE FOR! because it's so fresh. Really good ice cream and chocolate, great wines, champagne (actually it's called Cava) is really popular and made nearby.
For side trips, you might want to consider any of the coastal towns. Also, trips into wine and cava country, if you want to tour one of the bodegas. Mont Serrat, about an hour away, is a religious "pilgrimage" of sorts...and a wonderful getaway. I'm sure, if you are into it, bike riding, and hiking can be done. You could even drive to France, just to be able to say you've been there. It's only about an hour away.
enough? No? email me, or go pick up a copy of the DK Eyewitness book for Barcelona...it'll make you want to see and do EVERYTHING! |
