Hi,I“m from Barcelona.First of all,Spanish is not enough to find a proper job in Barcelona.Catalan is the first language used in Catalonia,so you should at least make yourself understood in both languages (Spanish and Catalan).About getting a job,I“m sure you can find something in bars or restaurants, especially if you come facing the summer. This jobs are always wanted around as there“s a lot of tourism.
Try to have the job before you move over here.Life cost isn“t cheap,...and you have to find a place to live a s well, rent is expensive, and buying a flat in Barcelona is almost impossible unless you“ve got a lot of money.A rent for a small flat is about 700-800 Euros a month if you are very lucky. The best thing is trying to find some students to share expensies with.
Well,good luck...it“s a nice place to live...

I am taking Spanish lessons now my man, and as soon as i can speak it with some kind of fluency...... im off to Spain!! The UK is going downhill and i have no desire to be apart of it anymore, Spain is a wonderful country, great weather, lovely people, excellent food and the Spanish culture is something else!!

My advice to you would be at least begin to learn Spanish before you go, it will be so much easier for you to get a job if you can speak Spanish as well as English. ALSO once you are there you will pick up the language quick enough!! So as a fellow Brit, i encourage you to go for it, if it is what you want to do! I know i will be doing the same thing shortly!!

Best of luck man.

There is a large English speaking community in Barcelona so it's possible to get a job without speaking Spanish (I have one).

Check out this website for help and advice on moving to and living in Barcelona:

unless you are qualified in some specialist area jobs are very hard to come by in barcalona even for spanish people. if however you do learn spanish (took me 5 years to master) most people in Barcelona speak catalan. And without a job you will run out of money in a very short time.

Pack up and go.

Get some rosetta stone language software to teach you and there may be language classes you an take at your local college your best bet would be a job as a tourist guide or a hotel receptionist. I can't blame you for wanting to go because Barcelona is a fabulous place and I hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

I just got back from Barcelona and i loved it so much i am thinking about moving there also, the people there are nice and most of them speak English very well and will help you and some people and I thought it would be a good first job to get started with would be to do something like work with a tour company. You Would learn more about Spain and lots of people tour there every year who speak English as well.

Why do you want to move to a country where you don't speak the language? Don't you think that might be a bit of a barrier? Try taking at least SOME lessons before you start packing your bags. The experience will be much better for you, I assure you.

How old are you? are you really prepared to make this big of a move? Are you from an EU country? If so, you can get a job more easily than someone who is not. If you are not, you need to consider the difficulty of securing a work visa (not an easy prospect, from what I understand) and in either case, Spain is entering a recession, and work is harder than normal to find. Consider that as well. If you don't speak the language, you might find it even MORE difficult.

I think you should think your way through this pretty carefully, and make sure you have things planned out. Finding a place to live will probably be easy. Finding a place that's reasonable, might not be so much so. Finding work, even harder, especially as you don't speak Spanish (nor, I assume, CatalƔn?). THEN there's all the problems of getting residency, and registring your address (things you have to do in Spain) and getting health insurance, and getting through all the red tape.

Don't change your mind about doing it, but DO know what you need to do to make the experience a positive one. Planning can make all the difference between a good experience and a complete failure.
