I want to move to Spain after completing college, any advice? |
Well me and my closest friend are both musicians, he plays Viola and I the Violin. We both are closest friends and we both agreed that once we finished High School we would go straight to a musical school, but we also want to leave our homes. Right after completing our schooling we both want to move to Seville and rent an apartment together, but we have very little idea on how we are to accomplish all of this.
Any advice, should we take out loans? Stay at home for a while?
We absolutely hate living here (Southern California) and that is why we want to move to Spain, we both share the same love for European culture, history and society and we have the same life goals so we would really like to do this. We realize how difficult this will be, and have begun to think past the romantic notion of living far from home in a wonderful land and actually focusing on the processes that will be required, but we need details and help. |

It sounds great. I had the same romantic idea, and when I finished my studies I went to France and I spent a year there but It was not as difficult because I'm European.
I really recommend you this experience and I think Seville is the right city for you guys but you have to find the way to get a VISA because with a visa waiver you will be only allowed in Europe for 3 months. After that you have to leave. The best opcion if you want to stay longer is to get a student visa. Apply for a spanish exchange, or the university (in Spain is not as expensive) or maybe the Music School (Conservatorio de Sevilla).
I think a loan could be is a good idea, but I would stay home for some months when you finish high school and get a job and save some money to start your new life in Spain.
Anyway, good luck with that and if you finally decide to go, you can contact me for any question about the city (I know Sevilla very well) or immigration. |

FINISH ALL OF YOUR SCHOOLING IN THE US > its muchh easier!
LEARN HOW TO SPEAK SPANISH >its really hard to get through spain if you dont know basic spanish. but notice that the spanish spoken in spain is slighty different than the spanish of other countries...be aware
MAKE FRIENDS>by making friends quickly your guaranteed to get to know more places and get to see more of spain's culture
GO TO SAN FERMINES> the running of the bulls. make sure that you get to see this wonderful event, at least once. It takes place in Pamplona (north) every year at the beginnning of JULY. its absolutely the greatest. |

First things first...you need to finish school. Here's an idea! While in school, take a semester or a year in Seville! (I did it, and I highly recommend it). That way, you'll already know where you want to try to get an apartment, and you'll have a little bit of a feel for the lay of the land. You'll also be able to get a feel for the work situation. Right now, there is little work for anyone, but if you're looking five or six years down the road, anything could happen.
You will need to check with the nearest consulate for information regarding work permits and residence visas and all that, and be aware that anything they tell you might change on the next day. The Spanish are notorious for red tape being un negotiable, and ever changing.
However, if you can handle the rigamarole, you will LOVE Seville!!!! |
