Loveless

I want to travel to southern spain alone this may. Is it 'safe'?

By safe I just mean is it generally a good area, ie low crime etc.
I was thinking about the malaga area, but the very quiet authentic parts.
I'm 20 years old, and will be renting a small cottage.

Are there any other places you have been that you would reccommend? I'm not looking for tourist filled spots with bars and clubs.

If you avoid the gypsies, and otherwise take ordinary precautions...lilsten when people tell you which parts of town to avoid, and where to avoid at nighttime, you should be just fine!

By avoid the gypsies, I really mean while they are at work, partaking in criminal activities...I met the people who were in the flamenco show, and I'm sure they were nice, decent, honest people...I didn't talk to any of them for terribly long, but they certainly didn't seem like the same sort of people who were down at the cathedral, harassing tourists, if you know what I mean. I hate to lump people...

I live in rural Málaga and it's safe here. I never feel threatened.

Traveller
Málaga is safe, even more the coast area.
I would recommend Marbella to stay, and from Torremolinos to Marbella there are many other quiet places to stay if you wish..depends on what you are looking for. May is a nice month for going to Malaga, not too many tourists yet compared to summer months.

Hope to be of help!
