I want to visit some cities in Spain?

I want to Visit Granada ,Seville and Perhaps Gibraltar. and have about a week and a small budget.
I was hoping to fly with ryanair to Malaga from Dublin and move on from there by public transport or rental car to see some if not all of theses places
Question 1 Is this a "realistic" itinery
Question 2.Is Malaga the best place to base.

Hi Fozzy Bear, Malaga is a very good option if you want to see all the andalusian region.
I own a lovely big studio in Benalmadena Costa, just 3 minutes walk fform the beach, fully furnished and equipped.
Should you be interested in renting it, pls contact me by e-mail : estudio.benalmadena@hotmail.com

From Malaga you can visit Gib and back in a day.
Granada is easily "on" as well but if you want to visit the Alhambra whilst in Granada, book first (before you leave Malaga.
I don't know about Sevill but you can easily visit Ronda (bet I spelt that wrong). Next time make Valencia number one on youre list. Not practical from Malaga, another time perhaps

encantar is spot on. fly to granada or sevilla, fly from sevilla or granada. presumably you want to see some real spain (alhambra etc>) so forget gibraltar - everyone says it's just a hangover caused by the worst bits of britain.
the flights to and from sevilla and granada (from stansted) will probably cost you a little LESS than flights to malaga, and won't be so busy.
my only word of advice - take or hire a tom-tom, especially for sevilla - the road signs / one way streets / parking are horrendous.
enjoy the cities, and enjoy the drive - it's beautiful.
i would also recommend you go through antequera if you can - lovely town, great setting.

Rafa is correct but I think you would be better to miss Gibraltar and drive from Sevilla to Jerez by the motorway then go to Ronda via the Sierras and Arcos and Grazelema.

Personal prejudice, but Gib is a bit of a disappointment (Algeciras and La Linea are dumps!) but if you do go, get a taxi to the top early in the morning and walk down to town. Do not drive into Gib, it is not worth the effort.

Yes, this is a realistic itinerary and yes, Malaga is the best place to base since you will be flying into Malaga. I think you should start your trip by heading to Granada and after drive to Seville and then down to Gibraltar. When you return to Malaga you will have a nice drive along the coast del sol.
have fun!!!

Malaga is probably the best base for the itinerary you want to follow. Besides, Andalucia's biggest airport is Malaga and you'd hardly find cheap flights to other airports in the area.
About choosing between public transportation or renting a car I would go for the renting. It's slightly more expensive but you will save time (mainly because Granada or Gibraltar don't have good and fast connections from Malaga or Seville). Another point is to have the chance to make stops in nice places during your trip. Fuel is cheaper in Spain (diesel 1litre costs around 1€) and the route you want to follow is mainly in highways.
The lodging, depending on the season, won't be an issue. I recommend youth hostels (they are great in Andalucia!) or just look for tiny hostels on the internet.
About your route... I don't think Gibraltar would be interesting for you. It is like a tiny british village with a huge rock. Sometimes you have to wait for a while to get in because of border controls. It's your choice.
Having a week I would add some spots to your route: Cordoba, coast of Cadiz and Ronda. So that your trip would be something like this:
Day 1: Arrival in Malaga - Drive to Granada (2h)
Day 2: Visit Granada (Alhambra)
Day 3: Drive to Cordoba (3h). Visit Cordoba
Day 4: Drive to Seville (1h30m). Visit Seville
Day 5: Drive to Cadiz coast (Conil, Vejer, Bolonia ruins, Valdevaqueros beach, Tarifa, Gibraltar)
Day 6: Drive to Ronda (2-3h). Visiting Ronda. Drive to Malaga (2h)
Day 7: Fly back dublin. (If time avalaible visiting Malaga)

That would be a great trip. Besides the landscapes are quite interesting. When you decide your route, I would be pleased to give you advice about things to see or lodging or whatever.

Yes it is a realistic itinery and an interesting one. Some of the other answers are great but I want you to have another plan which may be something worth looking at.
Why not fly into Granada with Ryanair and fly back from Sevilla also with Ryanair. This will give you more time to explore in each area. If travelling on public transport it certainly would be better. You could look for a car hire company that won´t charge for flying into Granada and out of Sevilla. Try http://www.carjet-iberia.com/ and see if there is any extra to pay or just get a quote.
´Whatever you decide you will have a super holiday. This area in Andalucia is fantastic.
