Spanish food is traditionally difficult for Muslims, Jews and vegetarians in that the Spanish stick pork and ham in all sorts of things. This once helped the Inquisition uncover people who falsely became Christians after the expulsions and the tradition remains in their recipes.
There are even 'tricks' such as the cakes / buns called ensaimadas. 'Saim' is pig fat in Catalan!
Barcelona has quite large Pakistani and Moorish immigrant communities, many of whom either live or hang out in the Raval area (on the right going down the Ramblas). Many of these people are quite poor so some of their restaurants are grim, so shop around and choose carefully. Ask around.
There are some good tapas bars where you can pick what you eat.
If you are very observant, try 'www.zabihah.com'. They recommend 4 or 5 certified halal places.
Failing this buy the 'Time Out' guide and eat vegetarian.
An adult shirt costs €60. see www.shop.fcbarcelona.com Your hotel will be able to tell you where the nearest shop is. There is ,of course a club shop at the airport.

Spanish food is some of the most exquisite cuisine in the world. It would be folly on your part not to try it. You should also know that certain Spanish foods have similarities with Islamic cuisine because of the Moorish influence. |
