Cantabria is a beautiful place. The weather could be rain but not very cold.
Theare are a lof of attractive places. Santander is the biggest town in Cantabria. All the cost is beauty. From east to west some beautiful villages: CastroUrdiales, Noja, Somo (a great beach), Liencres Dunes, Santillana del Mar (very very beautiful), Comillas, San Vicente de la Barquera. In the interior theare are green beautiful valleys. Del Pas with a small villages. Other zonethe Saja,with villages like Barcena Mayor and Carmona. And don´t forget Altamira Caves. Other zone, Liebana and Picos de Europa with the high mountains, Potes and Fuente Dé the most important places there.

October gets a lot of rain -- Cantabria gets a lot of rain in general -- that's why it is part of "green Spain" the mountains trap a lot of moisture. October temperature averages around 25 C - 75 F. There is a lot of natural beauty here -- especially the "Picos de Europa" majestic mountains divided by deep gorges -- not to be missed. They are on the border of Cantabria and Asturias only 15 miles or so from the coast. The approach to them in Cantarbria is Potes and if you go to Fuente De a funicular that keeps you above the clouds into the heart of the range.
Santilla del Mar is a village that has been unchanged for centuries and one of the most beautiful in Spain -- this place gets busloads of tourists -- but fewer in October
There are famous caves with prehistoric wall paintings at Altamira (which you must make an appointment about three years in advance to visit!) and at Puente Viesgo (you can visit the Cueva de Castillo)
Santona on the coast has a beach, fishing village and a nature preserve that you can hike around ....
I didn't go to Santander when I was thre but I hear is is a very attractive city -- and it is right on the coast also.
Cantaibria is beautiful the seafood is great you will enjoy -- hope it doesn't rain to much. |
