It would probably pay to take a look at the enclosed posting for the official view as taken by HM Customs. The amounts that seem to be generally accepted are 3200 cigarettes and 3kgs for tobacco. Above these limits you could be questioned and would be expected to have good reasons for carrying that amount.
Whilst watching a programme on the Costa del Sol recently, 2 English girls had their suitcases taken from them at Malaga airport, before even leaving Spain, as both cases were completely full of cigarettes.
Cigarettes are up to half the price of those bought in the UK, so there are great savings to be made, without getting greedy, being caught and having them all confiscated.
In conclusion, make sure you buy from the Official Tobacco Stores (tabacos) where the prices are all the same and under Govt. supervision.

I think it´s about 3 kilos allowed in continent.Ask any tabacco shop they´ll tell you anyway.I know that from Canary Islands is just 200 cigarrettes, but the law is different for Ibiza

To where are you returning? For mainland European Union are 6 cartons allowed. UK has a special regulation. Look in the pages of UK-customs, if you are from the UK. For the rest of the world: Look into the pages of customs or call them to ask.
