In one week... You either dedicate yourself to one of the main cities such as Madrid or Barcelona, or you can do another type of trip and see several different places.
(This is my suggestion)
Fly into Malaga airport...
Find yourself accomadarion anywhere along the Costa del Sol.
Rent a car. With Malaga as your base you are within a couple of hours driving distance to Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba. You can take day trips to each and return by early evening, have a dip in your hotels pool, or a quick visit to the beach and a swim in the Mediterranean, then a nice evening meal at your hotel... Afterwards drive to Puerto Banus in Marbella, watch the "jet set" and see all the magnificent yachts, or go for a walk on the promenade along the beachfront in Fuengirola.
If your trip is around august 15th. you could go to Malaga itself and wander around the Fairgrounds during the anual Fiestas... which last 8 to 10 days, an evening there can be quite interesting...the music, dancing and the food can be great) and the young women with their lovely andalusian costumes (trajes de faralaes) are worth photographing in all their splendour).
Then you also have SELWO animal park in Estepona, with the animals in semi-freedom, SELWO Marina in Benalmádena with their dolphin and sea-lion shows.
There is a small zoo in Fuengirola that is also quite nice... If you are traveling with kids these would be great for them...
If you are traveling on your own, you have plenty of nightspots, Puerto Banús has quite a few, as do many other towns along the coast.
If you spend 1 day each in Granada, Seville, and Córdoba...that leaves you 4 more...Take a side trip to Ronda and visit one of the oldest bullrings in the country, with its museum.
Drive up to see Mijas Pueblo of a morning...and pay yourself a donkey ride on the "Burro Taxis", then drive back down to Fuengirola, go to a beachfront restaurant and treat yourself to a "Fritura Malagueña" (local fishfry plate - excellent!)
There is plenty more to do, but I couldn't fit it all in here, you would be reading for hours!

In order to fully understand Spain one should visit Andalusia. The history, the food/wine, the festivals and the sun! It makes for a great trip! |

I just spent 6 weeks in Spain studying abroad and my favorite cities were Madrid-very international and so many beautiful things to do including the Prado and lots of beautiful parks and great shopping!! Tons of fun clubs too of any and all different types. I also liked Granada a lot! And Barcelona. And if you really want something beautiful goto Cadiz, its a beautiful island with magical beaches. Generally the food in Spain sucks unless you are in a big city. |

Barcelona is beautiful. You can go to the Gaudi museum, see the beach, tons of other things.
Also, you can go to Ibiza, an island off the coast of Spain (hour flight) with a great nightlife. |
