Contrary to what the others I have said, I have heard otherwise...I live in the US & a friend that was born in Spain but has lived here is eligible to collect about 400 euros/month, without having ever lived, worked or paid taxes in Spain. I don't have any more details for you, but that is what his research turned up.

I am a US citizen, born & raised but am in the process of receiving Spanish citizenship (and maintain my US) because my mother was born in Spain.

If you haven't paid taxes or social security in Spain, it's unlikely you will qualify for a Spanish pension. Presumably, your own government prevents people who paid enough social security from getting a state pension? Why would the Spanish government be any different?

In most countries, you only qualify for a pension if you have worked there, and paid taxes, for a minimum number of years

Pension income is for those people who have worked, paid taxes and social security fees during their working life in Spain...
If you have not done that in Spain, you are not entitled to these benefits, but rather in the country of your residence.

If you paid contributions to the state then you'd be entitled to an income, but if you haven't then you will get nothing. That would apply to a Spaniard who lived here all his life and didn't contribute.
