If I was to come to Spain tomorrow, could I find a job somewhere?

What do most Brits work as in the Costa's? Barwork only?

I live in Javea, on Spain's Costa Blanca. I can tell you it is not easy finding work apart from seasonal jobs in bars and restaurants. The pay isn't that great and you will need to rely heavily on tips. If you think you'll enjoy that sort of work, then come over. The weather is great, the lifestyle is relaxed and it's fairly cheap to live. Check out this weekly paper for further info : http://www.costablanca-news.com

Look into options for becoming a school teacher of English ... you will probably need to do a full length teaching degree course somehwere before you can be hired though.

not really you have builders and lots of jobs?look on some web site before you go you sound desperado?if your young what have you to loose you might meet a millionairess on the first day and she will hire you as a companion take care and venture to your new destination?

We are in high season so finding a job like barwork, timeshare orholiday related jobs shouldn't be difficult. There are alot of telemarketing jobs out there and a lot of British builders etc. If you are going over without any contacts my advice would be to pick up one of the local papers - The Sur In English is out every Friday and is free and that has lots of job offers in it. You could also go into one of the bars and get talking to the bar staff as they hear and know a lot of what goes on in that area.

A lot of Brits become self employed,: Builders, gardeners,Pool cleaners etc Others are employed in the touris trade. hotels, hostals bars and cafes. other just go on the black employment until thay decide what there going to do or stay in Spain!! For accomodation check out

As others have said, work for the summer is mostly drudge stuff - if you really want to spend your day rushing about serving tattooed knuckle-dragging Brits pints of lager and bacon & eggs in 35° heat, for 4€ an hour, go ahead.
If you speak good Spanish and are seriously looking for a career that is a different matter, but it could take you some time. Remember that you will be in the same position as, say, a Romanian peasant coming to the UK, but without any dole to dig you out of trouble!

You might do in the tourist sector, just now, in catering/bar work/car hire firms.
This week alone has been a record for tourists arriving in Malaga, on Wednesday over 360 flights came in, yesterday was even busier, so if its tourist related work, you should have no trouble.
I came here after working in our family business, I was trained as a shorthand typist, but have worked for a removals firm and in a private hotel catering for invalids and folks disabled I enjoyed this very much but it was hard work, but I still ahd fun also.

most brits are either retired or have their own small business, getting work will be very hard for you....
