If a non-Spanish speaking Brit wants to spend a year in Spain i am limited to teaching english/pulling pints?
I realize that as a non-Spanish speaker my limits are pulling pints in a bar (which i would rather not do!) and teaching English as a foreign language (but employment is not Guaranteed after certification) does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone spent some time abroad in spain?....tell me what you did?
Just have fun while you're there... although I can't think why you would want to be, if you don't speak the language. Try to pick up the language while you're there. Learning a language is amazingly speeded up when everyone around you speaks only that language and you have to communicate to survive.
You can't really teach English. My experience learning several foreign languages from different teachers is that the teacher MUST be bilingual - have both the language being taught and the original language of the student. You're out of luck.

I know a bloke who's been lecturing in an American University here in Madrid for the last 20 years and still speaks very basic Spanish.
You may find a job helping advanced students with their pronunciation and conversation.

HI, I live in Spain and i am from Germany. You can pick up a little Spanish while you are there. Its not that hard. And if you want to work and are just there for a year then get a job in a bar or restaurant. you do not have to speak Spanish to work there. Believe me, there are more Brits here the Germans or other nationality's..
