Are you a UK passport holder?
If so yes you can work in Spain as long as you register yourself at the police station and get so called NIE number.
If you work for a company they can give you a temporary contract so you will get your health insurance paid.
If you want to go freelance it is a bit more tricky (lots of paper work).
If you plan to stay and work in Spain only temporary get yourself the NIE number (you need passport, letter form work confirming you are working, or letter form the flat confirming that you live there - it is called Patronamiento)
If you want to pay taxes on your own you will have to be self employed which is not really good when you stay temporary so I wouldn't worry about that.

If you are coming from the UK or any other European country then you are allowed to stay. If you wish to work or do anything legal like buy a car, house etc then you will need an NIE number (foreigners i.d) you obtain this at the local police station a fairly straightforward process.
Then of course you are allowed to work legally, pay taxes like the rest of us etc. If however you want to stay and work illegally theres nothing stopping you either but if you get sacked or treated badly by your employer you will have to lump it, no dole, no social services like doctors etc so better to do it the right way in the first place.
This is of course, if you can find work, it's not good on the job front here the same as the UK!! |
