An Hostal is the Spanish equivalent of a motel. You have your own room and your own key, even a safe in many. Yes, you can often get a triple room, or add a "sucletario" (cot) to a double. They even have private baths in most of them these days!
In an INTERNATIONAL YOUTH HOSTEL, you pay by the bed. You can get a quad, usually, and pay for four beds, (space provided) or you can sleep in a dorm with somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 other people of the same gender.
If you join International Youth Hostels, you do so at the first one you stay in, and your card is good for something like one year. You get sheets at each one, or buy a sheet bag at the first, and use it at all of them. They supply blankets, and pillows, and it's a great way to backpack through Europe, though there aren't many member locations in the US. |

Where do you want to go... here Hostals are 2 star hotels like Dart said...
I stayed in one with 3 friends in Sierra Nevada... very cheap... 2 bunk-beds, a shower, bathroom (private) we have a television but only the basic channels... but we didn't spend that much time in the room.
There was a comunical kitchen but we ate out... |
