Internet connection Spain? |
Hi
I am moving to Costa de la Luz, Spain in Feb next year. I have been in touch with telefonica about internet connections and it looks like it will cost about €65 a month for both interenet and phone. Thing is I dont want the phone line and so this is quite expensive. Is there an alternative to this, apart from going to the interenet cafe? I have heard you can connect through your moble phone (of which I have a Spanish sim with Vodaphone) but dont know how expensive this will be. Thanks for your help. |

It does depend on exactly where you will be as to what competition exists. I live some kilometres outside of Sevilla and basically the only option is for an ADSL modem with the telephone line. If you are in the city or in a major town, then there may be other suppliers such as supercable but in the country you get little choice. For me the advantage of the full time internet connection for all computers in the house is worth the EUR 65. Connecting through mobile phone will be far more expensive and if, for example, you use things like Skype for free calls to friends, this again balances the basic monthly charge. You cant have ADSL without a phone line and in rural areas not everyone can even get connected to a phone line. On the Costa del Sol they have a network of radio phone connections but friends report many interruptions and network overload situations. |

Our local public library has 'free' WiFi connection. The local internet cafes charge a max of €2 an hour.
I admit that I have just got the Linea Duplo from Telefonica. This is expensive but connection was quicker than BT in the UK. I also get 'free' national phone calls which is great for keeping in touch with Spanish friends outside the Province.
Another benefit is that they can speak English when required.
I will look for a better deal when I am settled in. |

from the costa del sol..............
I use telefonica............ADSL...........I pay 39 euros a month, plus "some" calls, VAT, Taxes, my average bill is 70 euros a month.............there are other cheaper ways, but I find they sign you up for the 3/4 months, say its cheap which it may well be at the time, then after the initial period double or treble the price, and if you have signed up you are stuck for 12/18 months at a higher price! |

Sorry in Spain you have to have a phone line in order to get internet.. You can always try going to wi-fi places. But at home thats what we have..
Take care..

I have a cable internet connection but that is quite uncommon in Spain ....nearly everyone has it with a phone line....i have also heard that you can get connected via a sat dish ...but that is also very uncommon here. The library could be a good option if you don,t use internet a lot but they only let you connect for a max 30 mins, and it,s free |

Telefonica are well known for being very expensive and their service is not all that good. (previous personal experience!) There are many other companies that offer internet connection with or without a phone line. My advice is shop around and compare prices. Check the Yellow Pages (paginas amarillas) or go online and search for companies that offer internet connection on the Costa de la Luz. Hope this helps. Good luck! |
