Is Catalonia A Nation? |
The Preamble of 2006 defined Catalonia as a nation. But supposedly, it lacks legal value, so it's constitutional status remains as it was in 1979, which is an Autonomous Community. So is it a nation or not? |

Yes, they voted to be a Nation inside a Nation...
it is no diffrent from Scotland inside of the U.K for example.
but they can't be a "full" nation, because the parts in France will NEVER recive indepence or gain Autonomoy. & there's also a city in Italy which is CatalĂ . and I doubt the Italy government will "free" a city ^^, |

No, no... Catalonia is not a nation! I am Catalan, and I can assure that. See, Spain is divided in 50 provinces, and Catalonia is one of them, just like the others. It's true that there's a co-official language here: Catalan; but that doesn't mean that we don't speak Spanish (actually, I speak Spanish); it's just a matter of tradition, and respect for languages. Some people fight for it to become an independent nation, but it's just something they aim. I don't think it'll ever happen, cause it would cause many problems. Anyway, just know Catalonia is exactly the same as other provinces! :)
Have a nice day! |

Yes. It follows the dictionary definition. "a large group of people with a commmon descent, language or culture living in a certain territory or country", (or something like that).
I know the definition because I have been asked this question so many times.
(See the OED).
Catalonia is bigger than the autonomous area of Spain with the name. It includes the Spanish coast down to Alicante, Provence in France, and the Balearic Islands.
It will never be a country because the French won't give up their bit and the Mallorcans think (wrongly) that their language is not Catalan.
p.s. I think I need to explain further . The Catalans are a 'nation', and , rightly or wrongly, Catalunya could be described, and is described as a nation.
BUT If I am being super picky and pedantic, Catalunya is not nation but the Catalans are.
'Nation' really refers to a people. Like in the USA, they talk of the Souix Nation. The Scottish are a nation and their country is Scotland.
So the Catalonian nation exists and they can do nothing about it! |

Mireiaxx is wrong, we are a nation but not a state. But some Catalans, including me would like a State. It would just solve many problems we have, economic, trains, airports, the world etc.
Mireia is one of the people who vote for PP (left-left wing) who want to eliminate us and our language. |
