It will be a little bit cold, but, of course it´s a great time to visit those cities.
If you are in Madrid or Barcelona by January 5Th, you will be able to see The Three Wise Men Parade, and to live a little bit of the Spanish Christmas holidays and traditions.
Have a nice trip, and enjoy yourself

I went to Madrid in January. I enjoyed myself but it was very cold, you couldn't walk outside without being bundled up. You can still do and see a lot but if you don't enjoy cold weather, I would suggest another time of year.

Bring warm clothes. The lines for the attractions should be wonderfully short, but you may not want to spend much time in the outdoor cafés.

Check websites for the attractions to find out hours and closing dates. January 6 may be a bit difficult to get in to some of the monuments, as it is a national/catholic holiday.
