God no...you wonÂ´t be having any problems love.
IÂ´m Spanish and I have got neighbours that are black,muslims etc and they have never had any problems.
Spain is not more racist than other countries.
You can come without being afraid ...nothingÂ´s going to happen to you.

I donÂ´t think youÂ´ll find much trouble because of your race in Spain. But IÂ´m not entirely sure about that. My African American friends (and this was many years ago) had little trouble.

I donÂ´t think they are terribly racist. There are people who have problems with the illegals, but then, well, so do we!

As for safety in general, for the most part, the personalcrimes you find in Spain are perpetrated upon people that the perps know...and then there's pickpockets...you will learn where to avoid and at what times to not be troubled by them. And use your common sense when it comes to people that you know...be careful, but have fun!

Madrid is as safe a city as any.

Safety depends on you also, common sense, and remember you are a visitor in their country.

I get on fine in Madrid or any other Spanish city and feel more safe than in cities in the UK.

As a matter of fact :

- Spain has been for the last 10 years the second nation in world ( just after USA ), where more immigrants get installed, despite we are a relatively small country, and there have not been important social conflicts.

- You can find a lot of muslims and South-American people in Madrid.

- A lot of people here is ethusiasted with Obama's campaign!

A few years ago, when I lived in Barcelona and had a black roommate (female) everytime we walked down the street men would whistle and yell at her, basically treating her like a whore (and ignore me totally). She didn't dress like a whore or act like one, and we weren't in a "red light district" but since there are many black whores, there are some stupid people who think that all black women are for sale. Be careful and be smart, and you will be fine. My roommate just ignored them and nothing ever happened, it was just annoying. Spain is a wonderful country and there are way more NICE people than bad ones, just like any other country in the world. I don't think Spain is nearly as racist as parts of the US, for example... depends on where you are.. Anyway, good luck and enjoy your stay!
