Well, when I go anywhere, one thing I love to be exposed to is culture. I really feel that Madrid has so much great Spanish culture to offer where as Barcelona is just another big city like New York or something.
I love Spain! :)
P.S. If you are looking for nightlife, Salamanca is the best! Especially for 20 year olds :) |

Madrid and Barcelona are very good for your age but in the winter is better Barcelona, is hotter. But young people are still living the night Madrid or Barcelona, winter or not. You can enjoy in both cities. What do you like more seeing pictures ? Do you prefer hotter place? Do you prefer to see the sea ?... |

You could visit both and you´ll see for yourself.
Remember in Barcelona they speak catalan, but everyone konws spanish and will speak it. |

Madrid is definitely a good spot to holiday in December. It should be decent winter weather too, cold but dry and sunny.
Barcelona will not be much warmer and probably will rain as it is coastal.
Neither city is better than the other, they are completely different. |
