Sure. Madrid is a very safe place but as any other place hold your wallet and avoid small streets without people especially at night. Many people walks on the streets and you can move freely with them. I agree with one of answers Madrid is probably more safe than the majority of the major cities in the US.

Lisa, Spain is a cultivated country! You will be safer in Madrid than in NYC. Of course, every big city has it´s corners, but this country is save. Learn a little Spanish before you leave, and everybody will gladly help you here.

Madrid in my opinion is safer than many US citys. Just dont go down dark alleyways (you might trip over a cat)

It depends where you're coming from but Sapin is really safe. Travelling by bus is really easy and I've never had any problems in Madrid. So, yep, I would say so!
