Is it smart to book just your first hostal in Spain or book all of them at once? |
I was told to book the hostal in the first city you're staying at so you obviously have a place to stay and then book the rest of the hostals while you're in Spain so you can make sure you're not staying anywhere that's dumpy.
My friend wants to book all of them online before we go.
I just want to do the right thing here... |

If it's got an online address, you can be fairly sure it isn't dumpy. They are small, clean and simple, but the ones online are probably not dumpy...they charge for the fact that they are advertising, and so they also seem to make sure their quality is higher.
Hostales are pretty nice places, actually. spare and basic, but clean.
I DID, however, notice that the PRICE is dramatically different if you walk in. WAY cheaper! So, if you want to take that chance, go for it! A lot has to do with how much time you want to spend walking around with your luggage, vs already knowing exactly where you are going.
My husband insists on having arrangements in advance. Next time I do something like that trip...it will be so much changing cities from night to night that I think it might be easiest to just wing it. |

I would suggest to book for the 2 nights upon arrival, but then to book as you go. It is probable that whilst you may have the places mapped out where you want to visit, the chances are that you will want to go off your route and see some other places. If you have accommodation pre-booked, that would make it more difficult and you would be tied to your original plan.
If your concern is that accommodation might be hard to find, I assure you that will not be the case. The economic crisis has hit here very hard and as a result occupancy rates in all types of accommodation is much lower than usual and also to get more clients many establishments are offering prices even cheaper than last year!
I live here and I have experienced this first hand. |

Both the above answers are good but if you do "wing it", take the current Lonely Planets Guide to Spain with you. They will have them all listed. You won't be sorry. |
