Is running in the streets acceptable in Spain? |
I like to run, and I am leaving for Spain in one week. I don't want to pay the extra euro to run in a gym on a treadmill. Is it socially acceptable to run around the city and in neighborhoods? I heard that Europeans don't "workout/run" in the streets like we do in the US. Will I stand out if I do? How common is it?
Thanks for answering. |

Lately more and more people run in the streets, so you will not stand out. |

You know, I lived there many years ago, and it was not, but on a more recent trip, I saw people...more often than not, in places like along the river on the esplanade, and places like that, where the walkway is very wide.
Watch for where people are doing so. Try parks...but I can't really remember. |

Just do it. No one cares. |

Just apply common sense. You wouldn't go jogging to a highly commercial area or to a business area of the city. You just go to parks, residential areas, pleasant streets/boulevards... the sort of places where you won't be bothering people and people wont' be bothering you. |

I've never heard that... I live in North Spain and many people run/jog
but it is more common for people to do it outside the town... I'm not sure why, I've alway's guessed because people don't look at you, and it's a nice view for example in the forest or fieleds... o_O But many people do jog in my region... =/ |

I live in Benidorm and people usually exercise by walking or running along the beach, or the promenade or up into the rural country areas. Obviously it is difficult if you are in a city, but here everyone finds it acceptable. You would probably not be able to casually go into a gym and ask to use the facilities anyway, usually you have to pay for at least a week or more, but most charge you by the month. Better out in the fresh air anyway. Enjoy. |

It is perfectly normal. I live in Madrid and regularly jog through the streets, you'll see it everywhere, although maybe not in shopping areas - but you'd not do it there anyway. People will stretch and do other exercises in parks.
People usually wear dark coloured pants and T-shirts to stick out less and blend in. |

nothing to stop you jogging in Spain. That is so long as you are not running from the policia ha ha, all the best. |
