it might actually be cheaper to rent an apartment...i'm not really sure how you go about that but i'm sure if you google something you'll find it or maybe on www.segundamano.es or something

but ok when you go you should do the barcelona vision bus tour
there are two bus tours...the cheaper one is really crappy but the more expensive one is really good and that will let you see the city in it's entirety and i believe it's like the madrid vision tour where you can get on and off..

hope you have fun!

When we arrived after booking a cheap flight, we went to a kiosk in the terminal building that finds you accommodation. We told them our needs, somewhere cheap and cheerful, in the center of town. Within minutes we had a room with 2 beds for €35 a night, no breakfast. It just had a small entrance at street level, but once inside it was like an apartment block with an elevator to 6 stories, and about 20 rooms on each floor. They also gave us a map and told us what bus to get into town, the cheap public one. Had a great weekend.
Mind the pickpockets.... they are everywhere around Las Ramblas.

No idea about a Hotel, try the internet, but I have just visited and you'll enjoy it, what a great city, we stayed on the coast about 50 mins away on the train, cheap and convenient! (the train, not our Hotel grin*)
Try to be near the Romblas (I think that's how you spell it) it's the main drag down to the harbour, lots of life in the evenings!

Trypp Apolo in Barcelona is not bad, don´t confuse it with Trypp airport hotel. Like most major cities you can get 4 star hotels and they are not that good but because they have a conference room or some other busines facility they get to up the rating. but i guess you just need a decent room to crash in. Hotel bars in Barcelone are expensive so drink outside. But it´s within walking distance of Las Ramblas and all the tourists route buses which are a good deal. You buy a day ticket and you get on and off as many times as you like. The map clearly explains it all and you there is audio info on the bus in several languages so it´s possible to see the main sites in one weekend.

I stayed at the Rivoli Ramblas. It is very artistic (inspired by Gaudi), has very good accomodation, and is in a central location overlooking the Ramblas. The key to Barcelona is not to overdo the formal sightseeing, but to instead embrance the town. Walk down the Ramblas, and see people sitting on benches relaxing. Explore narrow streets where you will find cafes, shops, and even the occassional indoor mall. Stop in a cafe, have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and talk to the locals. You get a real feel of what Barcelona is like -- absolutely wonderful.

My friend and I have been looking at Barcelona for a nice holiday, so could you let us know if you enjoyed it, and what did you see. Thanks
