Catalan, Vasco, gallego, among others

The languages that are officially recognized in Spain are: Euskera (País Vasco and Navarra), Gallego (Galicia), Catalan (Cataluña and Islas Baleares and including Valenciano),
Bable in Asturias and the linguistic diversity in Aragón are also recognised.

Other minority languages are Gascón and Portuguese.

Interestingly, the use of Arabic in Ceuta and Melilla is always totally ignored by Spanish reference books but the fact that English is spoken in Gibraltar is always mentioned.

P.s. Ricardo, Some contributors have problems.

Catalan and Eskera (Basque) are languages. Catalan is originally an off-shoot of French,

Anduluz is not a language or dialect. It is just a hard to understand accent. Lorca was Andaluz and wrote some of the best Spanish ever. Canario is also 100% Spanish.

'Castillano' is the Spanish spoken in Spain. ´Español' is the world language. In English, it is all called Spanish.

Spanish has many accents just as English has.
Similarly, you can tell where people come from because they use local or native words such as ´chevre, choclo, guagua, papa, etc. These words are not ´Castillano´. Many words begining Ch are of American origin.

Catalán (Illes Balears, Catalunya), Vasco or Euskera (País Vasco), Spanish, Gallego (Galicia) and then there are others dialects of Spanish speakers (like valenciano, aragonés, andalúz, canario, etc.)

I don't think people of Valencia would respond very kindly to you if you say to them that they are/speak catalan, Iain,,,, XDD

Besides, just 4, or perhaps 5 guys, not clear, still speak bable. some might speak asturianu, basically by ending every word on u, and saying ye, instead of es. And definetely no-one speaks aragonese. And neither english nor arab are home languages of Spain.

Yes we speak Spanish - actually Castillano - and in Cataluna around Barcelona there also Catalán which to me sounds a cross between French and Spanish. However you find quite some regional variations as you would in the UK. In Andalucia we speak Andaluz which even changes from the mediterranean side to a Portuguese twist as you get close to the Portuguese border. What other way to speak Spanish is there. You open your mouth and out it comes. Saludos.

In Spain there are 4 official languages. Spanish (official in all the Spanish State), Catalan (spoken mainly in Cataluña, but also in Andorra, and similar to a dialect spoken in Valencia and Balear Islands. I say dialect because it's not official there), Galician (spoken in Galicia, north west, near Portugal) and Vasc (spoken in Vasc Country in Spain and France). Catalan is similar to Italian, French and Spanish, while Galician or Galego is similar to Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. Vasc is totally different, has no latin base and no one really know where it comes from. In all these territories, Spanish is co-official.

And yes, there are many ways of speaking Spanish, just like Australians, British, Americans or Indians don't speak with the same accent. As happens with British and English, Spaniards usually consider that the good Spanish is spoken in Spain (especially area Castillas) because it's where it comes from and in South America they don't distinguish many sounds, like C, Z and S.

HA HA at you!

Who cares? Just google it like everyone else.

Spanish is the main language, same is the Mexicans. Illegals speak it too.

Ah, yeah I am fooling the 80% of Americans against illegal labor into believing what they already believe (as opposed to just encouraging politcal activism like the illegals have done).

Yeah, so you say 80% of Americans are fools. Ok ricardo, so you parents are from Mexico, huh? And after one generation you are advocating the defiance of American laws. No thanks, we don't need anymore great Americans like you.

Maybe you just want to bring the whole clan up north - to hell with what is best for America. I have friends who are legal immigrants of the U.S. and they would like to bring their family over too. Get in line bozo.
