Living in Madrid-- where to travel to? |
I'm living in Madrid for the semester and I want to travel to somewhere in Spain next weekend, Jan 29- Feb 1st. Does anyone know of anything interested going on in another Spanish city, or just a great city to visit? I'm really open for anything, but I can only stay 3 nights, Thurs-Sunday. Thanks for your help!! |

If you have just 3 nights barcelona is too far to go, You could go to Segovia that is near to Madrid and it´s a really beauty city with a old castle, aquedut romain and the medieval centre city is very nice, and the most important is just 1 hour in car from Madrid.
Anyway there are more places like Aranjuez (south Madrid) it´s a city with more history and there is the Aranjuez´s Palace with very nice gardens, or you could go to Toledo with his castle, Avila with his old medieval walls...this all places are near Madrid, and they are veru nice cities ;) |

Barcelona, Seville, Gibraltar are very good choices.
Granada and Cordoba are very very beautiful too.
Its your choice |

Salamanca is good for a weekend. Maybe a little cold now, though. Maybe take the train to Seville where it's warmer. |

Something close to madrid: Toledo and el Escorial
But in Spain in general try to visit Euskadi...probably the best part of Spain :p...seriously go to Bilbao and Donostia!!! |

Barcelona!
They have nice architecture if you like that.
Gaudi's architecture made the city famous. |

Save Barcelona for the end of the semester, when you can devote a little more time to it!
Great day trips from Madrid include the Quixote trail, Rioja (you could spend a couple of days touring vineyards, if you're interested) Toledo, Ãvila, Segovia, Bilbao (you could spend a couple of days there)
For two to three day trips...I'd save Sevilla for some time when you have a little more time...go there for Semana Santa, and try to get someone to show you around. WAY more fun with people who know how to get around, and where to see the pasos at their most interesting. But you could do most of Sevilla in that time, esp. with the AVE taking only two and a half hours.
Salamanca is good. I'd suggest there for a couple of days. Or you could go into Extremadura, and check out Mérida, Cáceres, Badajoz...a night in each, maybe? if you aren't dead set on spending the time all in one room. |

Get one of those low cost flights Madrid-Gibraltar. You can either go on to TARIFA by bus or car and have great days at beach, kitesurfing or just bar hopping at night OR u can go city sightseeing one day to Gibraltar, one day to Tarifa and one day-trip to Marocco. Of course Barcelona is a great choice, too!!! Other ideas> Toledo, Salamanca, Cuenca.... |
