Taxis in madrid cost between 80 and 110 euro cents per kilometre, so it depends exaclty where you're going in the centre of the city. There is also a supplement for the airport run of five euros.
La Puerta del Sol, Madrid's official central point, is about 15 kms from Barajas Airport, which means you could expect to pay between 20 and 30 euros.
There is an excellent subway system in Madrid which will take you to the centre quickly and safely for a fraction of the cost, and if you buy a 10 ticket "bono" you'll make even greater savings if you plan to use the metro several times. The metro has a station in the airport and you will have to change once if you want to go to our example destination of Puerta del Sol.

I second the vote for taking the metro. Cheap and fast. No reason to take a taxi if you're going to the center of town.

Less than 10 miles, well signed and all dual carriageway/motorway ( you will see if a different/longer route is taken), so a taxi ride should not be that expensive. You will probably find prices to different destinations at, or near, the taxi rank.
