Madrid Markets

The 25 or so Madrid Markets, the ones where you have dozens of shops under one roof, are usually open on Saturdays until 2pm and are closed on Sundays.

If you're referring to outdoor food markets, hmmm.... I can't think of any.

There is a flea-market called "El Rastro" (web: http://www.elrastro.org/ ) in the Lavapies neighborhood of Madrid and is open on Sundays from about 9am to 3pm. They sell everything except food - except snack foods.

There is a coin and stamp flea-market in the galleries of Madrid's Plaza Mayor on Sunday mornings too.

Various markets in different parts of the city throughout the week and for different specialities:

Of course the grand daddy of them all is El rastro, although watch out for pickpockets in the area and if you are taking a bag make sure you wear it on the front instead of the back as people have been known to slice open the bottom.

Sunday: two biggest markets, and right within walking distance of each other.

The famous Rastro, flea market, runs from just below the Plaza Mayor. All sorts of goodies available. Watch your valuables. It's really crowded, and a great place for pickpockets. And in the Plaza Mayor, they have a stamp and coin market, if you're interested in that...a couple of other things for sale, but that's basically what they have.
