Wouldnt recommend Playa de Palma. Its practically underneath the flight path, its got lots of high rise hotels and is very very German. The beach is apparently ok. My sister and her boyfriend (now husband) stayed there a few yeras ago and wouldnt go back, but they got a cheap deal and enjoyed the sunshine. You wont have too much warm sunshine in April - it will be sunny but not really sunbathing warm. Most resorts will be fairly quiet in April, with many of the restaurants and shops not opening until 1st May - ish.

Santa Ponsa is a great place and you will enjoy

Santa Ponsa is great but for a lively resort that will be fully open in April try Magaluf or Palma Nova.

me
cala d'or

Magulauf

Alice
main part of palma for april, not magaluf it smells of cheese.

cala d'or is nice for summer

ca'n picafort is a small and friendly resort with plenty of good shops, bars and restaurants and is only a few minutes away from alcudia if you want it a bit more lively...

depends what age group you are, I love Santa ponsa as its for all age groups but if you are a teenager looking for non stop music etc the Palma would be better. There isn't a lot of shops in Santa ponsa and anywhere in Majorca in April might still be a bit cool for swimming.

Most of the resorts will not be starting to fully open as it's still early in the year.
Pamla Nova I think would be the best bet.
Close to the airport, I'd jump on one of the low cost airlines, and a short stroll past some nice bars, restaurants and shops and your in Magaluf.
