Mosques in Salamanca, Spain? |
Assalamualkum
I plan to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain during the summer and wanted to know if there was a local mosque in the area that I could get in contact with. I was wondering if there was a muslim family that I could get into contact with that would be willing to host me during the month that I'm there. I'm a 20 year old muslim girl and wear a hijab. My parents don't want me staying with strangers at all but it will be difficult staying on my own in an apartment as all my friends that are traveling with me want to stay with host families. I think I'd feel much more comfortable if I stayed with a muslim family as well. If anyone has any information about a local mosque or muslim family that I can contact I would greatly apreaciate it. Yes the key term is Catholic here... during the Reconquest of the Southern Regions all Mosques were destroyed on converted. I know Barça has a Mosq now... and I think many other BIG & International cities would have... sorry I can't say for Salamanca. Most of the arabs/north Africans in that region don't respect their relegion in the same way also,

You would have better luck in the southern parts of the country. Let me see what I can find for a mosque...I have no contacts with any families, but they might be able to help.
here you go! Didn't know if there was anything, but this looks promising. There's probably only the one, so you'll have to take it, whatever denomination it is. Quite likely, it's very traditional.
I know that there is a mosque (active one, not just a monument) in Granada, as well, and there are universities, there, as well. And a precious city it is! I've been there a few times...You must go...the palace there is TO DIE FOR!

I studied in Salamanca a few years ago. I don't remember seeing any mosques though. There are mostly catholics in Spain, but you might have more luck in southern spain.... like Granada. I would try there... I remember visiting there and seeing some mosques... along with the beautiful Alhambra |
