Perfect Princess

Moving to Spain at the end of 2O1O, and would like to be able to speak fluently?

Mum and Dad just said we're gonna move to Spain in Oct/Nov 2O1O, and I would really like to be able to speak fluently. My Aunty can speak fluently, but she's away a lot, so I can't ask her, and my school only does German & French. Please help, this is really important.

Any links to download courses? Must be free, Would be very grateful.

Hola Bueno, como es usted
I am fluent in spanish, try these links.

These are the best I ever come across when I was learning

Try these GREAT websites. Both FREE

spanishdict.com for learning Spanish, practicing, reviewing, etc.

myhappyplanet.com for talking with others who speak Spanish.

Go to your library and order a Spanish language course from them. You can take it out for approx. 3-6 months. It's not free exactly, but it is the cheapest you will find. Online you may find something free but you will not hear the pronounciations etc which are important to know.
Learning a language is listen, repeat, understand.

Suerte.

I don't think you will learn Spanish for FREE in a Year

Companies make BILLIONS each year by selling language courses, even at my local college to improve my ESO English it is 180€ a year.

But yes you could learn a language in a year if you put your self to the task, or at least be very good in it.

I think you may be setting your goals a bit hight, you should aim to have a good basic understanding of the language when you arrive to Spain and then develop it further once you are living there.
I have been living in Spain for 15 months and attend Spanish classes out here but I am nowhere near fluent and still struggle with conversation.
As you are a lot younger than me, you should pick up the language quicker but you really need to attend a Spanish course as you can only go so far by self studying

Your local city library will have a lot of "teach yourself Spanish" cds, books, and audiotapes. That way you can try out different methods and if you find one you like then you can stick with it. They also have Spanish-English dictionaries so you can look words up you don't know. Rosetta Stone is a great learning tool! See if your library has it!
Other advice: on top of studying and learning from Spanish books and cds, listen to Spanish radio: http://www.radioes.net/web.asp?radio=www.catradio.com
watch Spanish videos: http://www.univision.com/content/channel.jhtml?chid=19641&schid=19920
And practice practice practice what you learn.

Learning a language fluently requires a lot of practice! So as you learn Spanish, practice speaking it with maybe your parents or your siblings (if they are learning too), or better yet, with someone who speaks Spanish. If you have a friend who speaks Spanish, hang out with them and have them speak Spanish to you. If you don't understand what they say, they can always tell you in English and soon your Spanish vocabulary is growing! It really helps if you hear several people speaking Spanish to each other too. Applying what you learn is also great fun.
The whole idea is to hear Spanish A LOT! The more you hear it, the more you learn even if you don't understand what's going on. The more you learn, the more you'll understand what you hear.
Try to use it often. For example: When you go to the grocery store, make a list of the things you have to get in Spanish.
Think of it as an immersion into the language. The best way to learn a language is to be in the country where you are surrounded by it and forced to speak it daily. Since you are trying to learn beforehand as well, try as best as you can to create a environment where you are submersed in the language.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to take Spanish classes, but I've learned a lot from free sources.
Good Luck!

Ok its not free (nothing ever is!) - butI would recommend the Michel Thomas spansh course tapes / cd's.
Another idea would be to see if there are any spanish people living inyour area who want to practice their english. you can then meet up with them and teach each other for free.
Good luck / Buen Suerte

I have tons of links to textbook sites. email me if you want them. I find that the following isn't enough for me alone, but it's working in conjunction with some information. (I'm learning Italian...already fluent in Spanish!)

livemocha.com, is good for the basics.

Chat with folks on nosayudamos.com and/or sharedtalk.com

Also, working with the bbc language course...nice supplement.

Don't expect to be fluent, but if you can make yourself understood by next Fall, you'll become fluent in no time, surrounded by the language.

Even if your parents try to plop you down in little Britain, go out and find the natives! Hang with them, and they'll help you...it'll be WAY more fun than sitting around with a bunch of British transplants. I promise!

Make sure they take you traveling!
