Just how long do you have, one week or more?
If it's only one week that really doesn't allow you to see much, so try to limit it to two cities. Travelling between cities will take a full day, so that quickly eats in to your 7 days.
You could spend a full week in Madrid with 2 or 3 days sightseeing there, then do a day trip to Toledo, another to Segovia, a day trip on the fast train to Segovia, a trip to El Escorial.
Or 3 days in Madrid (including trip to Toledo), 1 day travelling to Barcelona unless you take the night train, and 3 days in Barcelona.
If you've got a few more days, then add maybe Valencia. |

When in Madrid, you can visit several interesting towns aproximately 1 hour drive away: Salamanca, Segovia, Ávila, Alcalá de Henares and Toledo, all World Heritage Cities by the UNESCO, so they're very beautiful. Aranjuez is a town near Madrid, and it's the so-called Spanish "Versalles".
Madrid and Barna (as we usually refer to Barcelona) are about 6 hours drive away or so (less by plane of by AVE train -the High velocity-). Near Barna you can visit small beautiful villages like Vic or Sitges, this last one is a very famous holiday resort but it has a very beautiful Old town with some Catalan art nouveau buildings (UNESCO World Heritage as well) and is one of the most famous gay-friendly towns in Spain. Tarragona is bigger, and it worths a visit too. Aproximately 1 hour drive away from Barcelona.
In the middle (BCN-Madrid) there is the medium to large city of Zaragoza (that hosted the Expo 2008 this summer) and is a nice city with interesting places and a lively lifestyle.
Hope it helps! |
