I'm from Barcelona. Since I was a kid, people have been speaking with me in Spanish and Catalan depending on the place I was and I learned both of them without any problem. I never had to study them and I'm native speaker of both. As a teenager I started to study English and then it's difficult because you study it. But as a child, do you remember studying your first language??? No, because children get it easily, and there's no limit, so if you speak both Spanish and English, speak with them in both. They will always thank you for that. Trust me.

Speak both languages. You will have them growing up using a hodge-podge of both that will sound quite cute. But they are not going to be confused. The younger a child is, the easier they will find it to learn another language. When they get older, you can ask them to please make all of their statements in English or Spanish or whatever. They'll think it's a great game.

Kids are like sponges. They absorb everything. Dont believe me just say a dirty word when you think they are not even listening and see how fast it takes them to repeat it. It's never too early to expose them to other languages, in fact the earlies the better as thier brains are better geared now more than ever to absorb languages.

no, in fact it will be an advantage. They will not necessarily learn more than one language but they will be better at linguistic skills.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Kids learn languages WAY faster than adults. They can learn and speak multiple languages and have no accents.

Teach them as many as you can. They won't be confused, they'll greatly benefit from it.

conspicuous
hey we were born speakin 3 languages.. no confusion happens..

let people speak to them in spanish outside... maintain english inside the house.. they'll be just fine

It's way better if you do teach them and talk in both languages at that age. They will learn both, and it will be much easier for them than it will be later in life.

Buy a language curriculum, available at your local bookstore. Children under the age of 12 learn languages much faster then teenagers and much much faster then adults. So they have plenty of time to learn.

Do not force them if they do not want to. You will end up with two children that can only speak one language. :P

no .its better to talk in English at this stage
as the human brain is not completed so he and others can take dual or more languages at this great age .

Cortnay Babbay â„¢
talk to them in english and Espaniol b/c your son is 1 so he will comprehend more when he is older my brother is 5 and he is mex american and knows spanish

If you plan on moving back here, then ONLY teach them English. If you plan on living there permanently, then concentrate on Spanish first, and introduce English when they turn 5 or 6.
