NIE Number what is it and when do i need it? |
I'm looking to work in Ibiza this summer after looking on lots of websites, I seem to be able to go out there and just start work on my EU resisdent. Did anyone to a summer season last year and did you require a NIE number? |

An NIE number is a "Número de identificación de extranjero".
You will need this if you intend to do any of the following:
- Open a bank account in Ibiza
- Buy a car
- Buy a house
- Pay taxes
- Sign a permanent work contract
- Start a business
- Become a resident
You need to apply for it either at the Police Station or the Oficina de Extranjeros. Make sure you go straight to the entrance and show your passport to the guard as you don't usually have to join the queue if you are from the EU.
I would say that if you were going to work just for the summer, you wouldn't need an NIE number. Most summer jobs are paid in cash and don't entail an official contract.
You can also set up a non-resident bank account in Ibiza if you want to with your passport. |

NIE Numero de Identificación de Extranjeros - Identification number for foreigners
You need it, if you will stay longer than 6 months. You will need it also for work, because this is also your number for social security. |

Your biggest problem is not your NIE, it is getting a job. There will soon be 4 million people unemployed in Spain. Tourism is already down by nearly 20%. Where I live there is 20% unemployment. Finding a job will be difficult because local Spaniards will be after anything going. |

The N.I.E. number is a "taxation identity number" and dubie as cover most of what it is required for. |

I am english and have been living in Spain for almost two years. I have a flat lease, telephone line, internet connection and Spanish bank account and these were processed using just my passport number. |
